Tisherdale Gibson at Cwmsefin....."Sammie"
When I first set eyes on "Sammie", he was a square Pembrokeshire Corgi. He was so overweight; he was heading for health problems. His coat was very dry, he was not used to being groomed regularly and he had never had a proper bath. "Sammie" spent his days running after the quad bike, gathering sheep and cattle, on his owners' farm. Calving and lambing time meant he could feast on placentas to his heart's content. He also visited the chicken pen regularly to gorge on eggs. "Sammie" was so heavy, I could not lift him.
Tracie, his owner had tried various food or diet for him but all had failed, so I persuaded her to leave him with me for six months and I would prove to her that "Sammie" would lose weight on CLINIVET Adult Light diet food, his health, condition, coat, fitness and general appearance would soon improve and soon he would be ready to attend his first dog show.
Tracie laughed at this plan, BUT, in my humble opinion, underneath all this fat was a beautiful dog, a potential winner in the ring and one who could improve the gene pool in the breed. On his first day here, he was given a proper shampoo and blow dry. This did not go down very well. His second day he had to fast for 24 hours. This certainly did not please him. On the third day he started on CLINIVET Adult Light, his goal being 16kg or a little less by the end of July 2005. Poor "Sammie" was starving by now and hopping up and down when he saw his dogfood bowl, but he still ate his food steadily.
Most Pembrokeshire Corgis scoff dogfood down, but "Sammie" never does, he eats like a little gentleman.
At the end of July 2005, "Sammie" started casting coat, but entered his first dog show, and won two firsts and Reserve Best Dog at the Welsh Corgi Club Open Show under breed specialist, Mrs Laura Campion. According to his owner, "Sammie" had never really gone through a good moult, but soon he was almost naked.
His second appearance was in September 2005, at the Ulster Welsh Corgi Club Championship Show in Belfast under the Allrounder, Mr. Peter Green, USA. He gained his KC Stud Number, qualifying him for CRUFTS for life, even though he was not back in full coat.
At Llanelli All Breeds Show on November 6th 2005, "Sammie" won Best of Breed, under Allrounder judge, Julie Vaughan. "Sammie" is now down to his ideal weight, fit, healthy and in wonderful coat thanks to CLINIVET Adult Light. His next aim in life is to have fun in Agility!
